Note: This was the author's family's business. The store had been opened by Leandro and Balbino Ruiz, uncles of the author's grandfather, Alberto Vadillo. Alberto came to Cuba from Spain at age 12 to work with his uncles, and was later followed by his younger brothers, Dionisio and Eustaquio. Leandro and Balbino had no children, and upon their deaths, left the store to Alberto, Dionisio and their cousin, Victor Ruiz Aramburu. By the time this photo was taken my grandfather, Alberto Vadillo, had already deceased and his son, my uncle, Eusebio Vadillo, was already working there.

Eustaquio never worked in the business. Instead, he was educated in the US and established an import/export firm in New York.
